Course: Immersive Technologies
Theme: VR
Project duration: September 25 to October 1 2023
Project brief
The assignment was to create a VR prototype based on place perspective and context. The experience takes place in an abandoned hotel. The objective was to find three working fuses and insert them into a fuse box to unlock an exit. All fuses were scattered around the hotel but only some were functional. A demon haunted the building and could only chase the player when the lights were off. A flashlight acted as a defensive tool. If aimed directly at the demon it would be forced to retreat. When the lights were off the player had to return to the fuse box and activate a switch beside it to restore power and stop the chase.
My contributions
All hotel rooms unfurnished were constructed. The rooms varied in size and layout. In hindsight some turned out too large which affected pacing and navigation. Interactive props were created including fuse box fuses flashlight power switch ceiling lamps exit sign and a paper clue. Logic was scripted for flashlight toggling power switch functionality and the flashlight’s effect on the demon. These elements were directly connected to gameplay.
Work process
All content was developed within one week. Room layout supported exploration and gameplay loops. Props and scripted systems were designed to serve specific mechanical functions.
This project consists
Modular hotel room layout
Interactive props linked to gameplay
Scripted systems for player survival and progression
Flythrough of the hotel layout created for a one week VR prototype. Rooms were designed for gameplay. Some rooms were left unfurnished due to time constraints.
Quick demo of the interactive elements created for the VR prototype. Includes the light switch, fuse box, flashlight, and the paper clue. All props were tied to core gameplay.
3D model of the flashlight used in the VR prototype. Functioned as both a light source and a defensive tool against the demon.
3D model of the fuse box used in the VR prototype. Players had to insert three working fuses to restore power and unlock the exit.
3D model of the light switch used in the VR prototype. Positioned next to the fuse box and used to turn ceiling lights on and off.
3D model of the ceiling light used throughout the hotel. Controlled by the wall switch and essential for managing visibility and triggering the demon mechanic.
3D model of the exit sign used to guide the player toward the final escape point after restoring power.
